My GF is seriously considering this. Did you call them to confirm its collection only? Or am I having a blind moment and have just missed it.

One other thing, I remember someone stating the power rating on these was ridiculous, can anyone confirm?

Yes, this is stipulated by Panasonic. You have to buy in person in-store to qualify for such a big discount.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

Would this come with a 1 year warranty? The alternative would be to get John Lewis to price match, but i'd like to give these guys my business since they have actually offered the price in the first place.

I got mine in December for £920 delivered with 5 year Panasonic guarantee after paying in the shop. The price of the tv soon went up after this though. If anyone is sitting on the fence about this tv then don't. It's great!

The only thing thats putting me off a little is the power consumption. Figure it will equate to about £10/month given my usage. The newer Panny's are supposed to be better in that respect, but not sure by how much. Also the only alternative really is a Pio and even if that is more efficient, I'm not sure it will be by enough to justify the GF spending twice as much

BTW can you confirm the fans run silent (or atleast you can't hear them from 6-8ft away)?

I have a PZ46 and it is effectively silent.

Not sure what the power consumption equates to in real terms - but then I was running a huge fishtank until a few months ago with 1000W of lighting and ~500W of pumps.

I'm very happy with mine and the elec bills aren't huge. If you want cheaper running costs then an LCD is an alternative - I went with what I felt gave me the best pic quality for the price.

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong), that the power consumption isn't constant on a plasma like it is on an lcd. If its black on screen- then it's not using any power, so it fluctuates alot more than LCD screens of a similar size.

I'm sure its more complicated but I only learn the basics

Picked one of these up from the company on Sun morning.... managed to grab the last one. I dont know if they will be getting any more stock ...but it was too good a bargain to miss.

I didnt see it on display, they had the th-50pz81 on display along with plenty of other screens from a variety of makes.

Its not a huge issue, ~£10/month against the actual £1k outlay won't sway me on its own. I'm just saying if there was an alternative which didn't mean compromising on pq I would go for it.

The problem is the only alternatives I see are the Pio 9G's which are twice the cost and I don't know how much more efficient they are. Or the new Panny's which will probably be twice the price initially aswell. Unlikely they will pay for themselves over the couple of years before I upgrade again anyway

My main concern was the fans as I've had noisy plasmas before. I think I can probably live with an extra heater in the room as long as it doesn't sound like a jet engine

Hmm great, now they'll probably say its not in stock even if it was on display somewhere.

Oh well wait for the next deal I guess, really want the warranty.

Re: Panasonic TH50PZ80

my tesco is kingston park newcastle upon tyne uk.

all large 24hr tescos will also have this.

they dont have it on a hd feed only split sd freeview. Friends who are have it swear by it on PQ.

Only downside I can see is the 480w power consumption which will increase quarterly electric bill.

Re: Panasonic TH50PZ80

Ok well JL price match didn't go too well.

They called today and said someone from Oxford Street had gone to the store and they were informed the TV had not been instock since before the weekend.

I called them back and asked how this could be possible since I'd been offered one on Saturday and I knew of one person who'd purchased since then.

Since this wasn't the Oxford Street store, they said they would have to ask them to send someone again in that case. But then they decided to check again they had the TV and "suprisingly" I got a different answer then the one on Saturday.

On Saturday it was possible to order one in. But now apparently it wasn't and I should call Blue Water who were the only store who had them instock. And you guessed it, start the whole undersales procedure again

I told them I couldn't be bothered and may just give up with them from now on. This isn't the first time I've had issues with undersales.

NOTE: I can't confirm whether JL were lying about the stock, or the original store misinformed them when they sent some one to check. All I can confirm is they definately had them in stock over the weekend and they were NOT out of stock since last week. It just seemed very conveniant since if they'd said they were no longer in stock I may well have argued that they were in stock when I filed the undersales request.

To be honest the staff in the store concerned where not that helpful .... kinda had to railroad the sales staff into selling me one.... certainly would only use them only in the case of getting an extreme bargain.

Fair enough, perhaps they did tell the JL undersales person that it had been out of stock for ages. Just seems somewhat of a coincedence considering I had queried when raising the undersales request what would happen if it went out of stock by the time they got to it. Then they suddenly tell me the store hasn't had it in stock since before I raised the undersales request.

To compound that they then reverse the original information that they could order it and pack me off to bother Blue Water.

I've had issues with JL undersales before. It just seems overly difficult, particularly when they themselves don't often have a shelf edge price on their products

The main reason I gave it a shot was that I wanted the warranty and didn't think I'd make it into town before they all went.

Oh well, roll on the next bargain
