Re: Planar B Stock pj's at bargain prices

I've just ordered a planar 7060 from these guys .... it should be here tomorrow..... I can't wait to see it, but I am worried about rainbows, I'll let everyone know tomorrow what I think of it. My other worry is that I've just spent out on black window UK projector paint and am now worried that the planar won't be bright enough to have a huge screen when using a paint of gain 0.9ish ..... does any one have any ideas ... should I go back to a plain white wall?

I should end up with amazing black levels, Mostly I play xbox 360 and watch the occasional movie on projector so I'm thinking that because xbox is mostly 720p(?) I should be getting the best picture possible out of the XBOX360 ... I know XBOX 360 can do 1080p over HDMI I but I assume that it is scaled up? .... does any one have an opinion?

Thanks ... and wish me good luck on the rainbows and brightness.......

I assume you mean black widow paint? if so it should not be a problem.

It depends on screen size and distance from the screen to projector and light conditions in the room.

I have the 7010, the next model down from yours but it has the same brightness.

I have a grey screen, not black widow but slightly lighter,I have a screen size of 106" diagonal and can get a good bright image in daytime with the curtains closed and even better at night. This is on eco setting where the bulb has reduced output.

Regarding rainbows you will have to see for yourself but I think you will be unlucky to be bothered by them as most people do not see them or only brief flashes occasionaly.

Enjoy

Re: Planar B Stock pj's at bargain prices

I have just set up Planar 7060 and have viewed it with some windows open on a dull day.... the picture is still very good but I am seeing a lot of rainbows. I'm going to try it again tonight (probably all night ) when its dark. The picture is already very good with the XBOX 360 and I guess that it will be amazing in the dark. Tonight I'll be watching Wall-E in 720p and playing Call of Duty 5 on the XBOX 360.

I'll be hoping that my sensitivity to rainbows will decrease because I like it other than that. I do hope this is the projector I'm going to keep for the foreseeable future. I think it looks very cool in its shiny black case and it is bright enough for my needs.

I might even try out Sin City to see how bad the rainbows can get and whether I can live with them at thier worst.

I saw a few rainbows when I first got my Planar 7010, but never notice them anymore - think your brain might adjust to them so see how you get on after a couple of weeks.

Re: Planar B Stock pj's at bargain prices

I understand that the 7060's have gone now so only 7010's available so if you want one get in now.

Another member on here bagged the last one and the pj was showing 0 hrs so either the pj was not a true B stock(it was brand new) or they may have put a new bulb in.

Re: Planar B Stock pj's at bargain prices

I have tried the 7060 out quite a lot now, I watched 'Wanted' on it last night and it was AMAZING in 720p. I saw very few rainbows ... but playing Call of Duty world at war they are visible a lot of the time .... and Sin city was a bit of a nightmare for rainbows, but I guess it would be.

I'm hoping that my eyes will get used to it and that it stops bothering me in COD5. The blacks and colour are truly amazing and the brightness is fine for what I think is a pretty huge screen (90+ inch) .... I don't think I actually want it any bigger. I'm guessing that in reality the limiting factor for the projector is now going to be calibration and room reflectivity. I have one big annoyance which I'll post back if I manage to fix it. The projector won't take 720p over VGA which means that I can't use my laptop with 1 to 1 pixel mapping I have got powerstrip to send out 720p which the projector recognises and then adds black bars on all four sides If anyone has any tips it would make my day.

ps. I looked in the manual and it says that only component and HDMI support 720p.

Re: Planar B Stock pj's at bargain prices

You will notice rainbows more on sd material than hd material.

I saw the occasional rainbow with hd bluray/hddvd when I first got my projector but hardly see them now.I was demoing the pj to risheet03 yesterday afternoon before he collected his 7060 from creative and he did not notice any rainbows.

When i switched to a sd dvd he said he could see rainbows, and so could I.I watch very little sd stuff these days so it does not worry me.
