BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

Just saw an offer at Blockbuster. The Sony BDP S350 plus 6 blu rays and 10 half price rentals for 199.99. Seems a good deal to me. I got a PS3 which I only bought for Blu Ray as use my 360 for gaming, seriously tempted to sell it and get this offer. Anyone got any thoughts on my plan?

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

It is a good deal
Amazon had the Player around Christmas for £ 159+ 3 free discs and 2 by redemption from Sony.
Now it is £ 170 without any such deal .. and Sony discs take for ever to come
Certainly if you dont need the PS3s gaming you wont find a half decent BD player and those discs at that price
Blockbusters deal also has (I think) a voucher for 10 BD disc rental at only half thier normal price)
Its actual BD playback has been compared with the PS3s and especially Panasonics BD35 ( which is £180 .. no discs) and you will find that you get a very slim standalone player for not much whatever the variuos conclusions in terms of quality and sound. It certainly plays SD DVDs better than the PS3
The PS3 is faster though..

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

Cheers for all the advice guys. I am very tempted as I kind of feel like I am not using the PS3 to its full potential and I have a friend who I think might buy the PS3 off me. I need to check how much they are going for second hand though first.

P.S. Nitelife what is the deal with the Blu rays? Do they pick the 6 for you and if so what are they? I was looking for a leaflet in the store but they had ran out.

Yes you're right, Batman Begins and Casino Royale are by Sony redemption. You simply register the player online, fill out a brief questionnaire and they send them out within 28 days (it said when I registered).

I didnt fancy Mamma Mia and Hancock either but because they are newish movies I thought I would just sell them on.

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

I just got this player from my local blockbuster and registered on line.

Sadly this is where im now anoyed and confused. It wouldent give me my chosen user name on three gos and then once all sorted a window poped up saying the disk had already been used and i would not get my disks!

The box had been resealed at blockbuster, they open them to stick the extra disk to the ones already with it. So have i registered or has some one already used my disk?

Well i be speaking to the manager at blockbuster in a sec but has any one got any direct phone numbers or email for those doing the offer? the sony site seems to be playing up on my pc at moment.

This has happened to quite a few people (Used disc) without the box being opened so don't just assume it is used. Drop an email to Sony support or call them & they will tell you what to do.

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

Calmed down now but ive reminded myself why im not a huge sony fan

I called sony and apparently i still had to do the registration survey witch ive just completed but at the end still diddent get a message saying if i would or wouldent get my disks.

I do however have doughts about the disk and how new the player may be, insrutions wasent sealed and so on.

I talking the the boss at local block buster in the morning, i got the last one from there. Sony told me its basicly there problem and they need to talk to there sony rep to get another disk if i still got problems.

Basicly im impressed with the disk but not with the service at sony or bb.

Well lets put this in perspective; It's hardly Sony's fault if Blockbuster supplied you with a used BD player & or disc is it! your "contract" is with Blockbuster who are totally in the wrong here.

If you have completed the survey then the discs should come, you don't get a message saying they will though, I'm pretty sure if the disc was in "used" it would not have allowed you to complete the survey.

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

I agree it wasent sonys fault for the sale but there staff could have been better by a long way.

Blockbuster on the other hand i will never shop with again after today. I called them to explain the problem and i would be wanting a refund. No problem there except they have no money in the till! My money went to the safe and since then there was a power cut and so have made no money to refund me as yet!

Smell like a cop out?

The hole sorry saga sucks, i should have waited another month and get the pioneer.

sounds like a bit of a nightmare you went throught there. To be honest I have kind of decided against the whole thing. I figure that my PS3 is doing the job and its going to be hassle selling my PS3 and I dont want most of the blu ray discs. Going to get a ps3 remote instead as think i just sick of getting confused using my control pad as a remote lol

Well I guess the good thing is that you might get an even better deal this year and its not as if you dont already have a player
As for the Sony/ Blockbuster thing.. It is a nightmare but It is probably specific to that shop and the individuals who did the transaction. If they dont have power it would however also affect a card refund

Sony has given the redemption of disc to another company who are .. tardy to say the least. Nobody who registered got any confirmation but eventually got thier discs after registering

This should not however negate the merits of both the player , and the deal as it was in good faith
While I wont get into the debate about its PQ compared to the PS3.. I can certainly say its audio, DVD playback and quietness in operation are better and it is very compact and wife friendly. It wont play games though and it is slower than the PS3 in loading BD discs

So do I (dyslexia that is) and you're welcome. However although ment in jest, the mistakes were nothing to do with dyslexia, more not knowing the difference between their/there/the're or hole/whole, etc..

Still if you use a debit card they can't pull the 'we got no cash in the till' routine, live'n learn eh! I found out a long time ago cash is the worst way to pay for something, gives you next to no protection at all.

You're not the only one. I picked one up fron Blockbuster a few days ago and had the same problem on registration. Unfortunately it looks like a bug on the registration CD as if you go forward after completing the form but then click the back button to go back and sign in if you already have a Sony ID the disc tells you that its already been registered. Looks like the CD is posting the user data too early in the process (been working in Multimedia for years building Director and Flash CD-ROMS, and see this sort of thing a lot).

I rang up Sony customer services yesterday who confirmed that the registration was successful, and that they'll be sending me the 2 discs. They said a few people have been unable to register correctly and hadn't received the confirmation email. If you want to check yourself you can reach them on:

08705 111 999 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Other than this, totally loving this player. Fantastic picture, and a marked improvement over the PS3 when using bitstream audio to my Sony 2400ES.

Re: BDP S350 offer at Blockbuster

Well this offer swung this player for me. I put the CD into the PC and the registration process went fine with no problems (lets hope the disks arrive)

My only gripe is my TV wont auto switch on HDMI 2 but my Denon DVD did with no problem.

Still the free films are ones I would have bought anyway.

Thanks
My CD said the registration was OK but "My Sony" doesnt show it as registered
I was of the opinion they did not send confirmation E-mails though and there is a whole thread on this very issue none of which mention any confirmation email
However subsequent attempts to register were blocked saying the CD has had previously been used to register
