Re: Panny TH42PX80B

Unfortunately the code has expired! So at the moment £499.99 is the cheapest you will find anywhere as far as I'm aware.

Personally I'd phone up your local Richer Sounds, if they have stock or can get stock, they will do a 5 year warranty for an extra £49.95. Making the total £549.90. Be quick mind, stock is getting rare.

Sadly for me they don't deliver, as I can't fit a box that size in the back of my car.

Yeah it is a pain, the box is huge. From the FAQ:

42PX80: The box dimensions are W 114cm x D 33cm x H 79cm

Just about fits in our old shape Vauxhall Zafira.

Personally I'd go with the Panasonic, should have better SD viewing. I would however suggest viewing them both in the flesh if you haven't already.

Yeah, should be a big step up. Got a richer sounds local? They are normally pretty good, unlikely to have the Sony on display though.

Yeah there is a richer sounds.... But called them and they don't have it in stock. I have a panasonic reserved at a nearby Currys... Agree I don't like currys, but not got much choice! Will call RS before I pick it up though to see if they have got any more in....

Yeah, in a similar situation myself. Main advantage of RS aside from the better customer care is the 5 year warranty for 10% of the price.

Re: Panny TH42PX80B

I gave in and went and got one from currys (neither of the RS near me had them)...

It most definately gets a

Watched the first 10 mins of Transformers on Blu Ray

Though I failed to get it in the boot.... I knew the box dimensions would fit, but what I hadn't counted on was the lip on the boot would mean it wasn't possible to get the box in there... Sob...

Had to get my OH's dad to come and pick it up.... Now that I'm back it is quite funny really!

Dixons have this for £499 and if you add a battery for a couple of quid you can use the code newyear50 to save £50 - therefore getting this for £451 delivered!

Code expires today though

Yes its an excellent buy, I have the 37", this is not a full HD set (its a 720p) but 720p is fine for this size of set (you're are not missing much not having 1080p on a 42" at say 9 feet), the SD quality is fantastic on the 37" and I guess you'll lose a bit on the 42" but not much.

Whilst people say LCD is catching up, I still think plasma has the edge and at this price I doubt any LCD will come close to the Panny, forget 'in' shop comparisons etc, get the Panny Plasma home and it shines.

The panny is easily superior to the sony V series, and even the W series.

Stick with it
