Smile Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

Just bought one of these for £123.00 inc vat from oyyy.co.uk These retail for £300 or more.

The following retailers also have this at a very good price, they are stuff-uk.net and dscplc.co.uk

I was a bit worried it may be an import or refurb model. Arrived next day on Saturday delivery and was Brand New UK Model.

Re: Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

Hi,

Well spotted _ I've just ordered one.

I did a bit of a search and found one or two a pound or two cheaper, but I couldn't get onto the site that I tried.

I looked at these at the Bristol Hi-Fi show last February (~£250) and I've thought about getting one for a while. Last week i purchased a new dvd-recorder so I now need a hdmi switcher .... just the job.

Thanks again.

Hi,

My unit has just arrived. Item was double boxed and looks like a new UK model. I might have to go home early today to install it.

Please advise

If i was to buy 1 of these am i right in thinking that i would be able to connect my analog dvd recorder thru scart to this box without connecting it to the t.v. and output it thru the hdmi output on my display. I assume that i will still need to connect the arial pass thru to the tv for recording purposes.

Re: Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

Hi Mikehb,

Yes the unit has a scart input, so you can connect your dvd-recorders rgb output to that. I've got a Pioneer Freeview box connected to the scart input on mine.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the arial "pass-through".

You still need to connect an antenna to the dvd-r. If you have a digital tv you may well have an analog (antenna) output from your tv to feed the dvd-r.
Otherwise an analog (antenna) feed should go to the dvd-r first and then onto the tv.

The unit has NO antenna connections - it's a HDMI, component, scart, s-video & composite switcher which upscales standard def to 1080i.

Mine is installed and i use it to switch HD-dvd, DVD-Recorder and PS3 (via HDMI) as well as upscaling freeview (via scart) to my Panasonic HD-8 plasma which only has 1 HDMI input.

I'm glad I picked mine up when I did _ £413 is a bit scary, although I'm sure I found some at prices ~£130 when I did a search.

Yup...

Months too late!!

Actually, I did a google search and found some of these at other companies (other than oyyy) for similar prices. I'm sure I've seen them advertised for around £200.

Some companies (selling through amazon) are doing it for about £200 but I'm kicking myself for not getting it when it was £150 Delivered!

Damn me and my 'Waitnsee' policy!

Quite late to come to the party and possibly of no use to anyone, but I've just picked one up from Hi-Fi Confidential for £119.99.

Hi,

Nice to see this is still going.

I spotted one for ~£100 somewhere recently (can't remember where though!) but that's a good price from Hughes Direct.

Re: Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

SOrry for the bump -

I am interested in buying one of these for use with my Hitachi UT42MX70 panel. It only has 1 HDMI and I need to connect an Xbox 360, a Wii, and a HTPC to it. I may also connect an external speaker set to it later on, but I will be using the TVs speakers for now.

The 360 and the HTPC will both be HDMI, and should carry audio too yes?
Will the Wii via component carry sound too?

Are there are any limitations or better/cheaper models I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

Hi,

I'm not sure what price you'll find a V100HD for, but worth a look.

If your tv already has component inputs for your Wii, you would only need a hdmi switcher so you could use something like the Oppo unit:

Oppo Digital HDMI Accessories

I'm sure there will be other similar units around.

As for your Wii, the component video signal doesn't carry any audio. You would need to make 5 connections to your tv (Y,Pb,Pr, coloured green, red and blue as well as a L and R audio connection).

Remember that the V100HD isn't an amplifier so if you want to use anything other than the tv speakers you would need an amplifier to handle the audio from the Xbox and htpc.

My TV isn't really such - it's just a large monitor with 1 HDMI and one VGA input, that's why I want this unit.
Does the unit have the appropriate connecters for video and audio from the Wii?
The 360 will have its audio over the TV speakers and I will just connect the HTPC to some PC speakers.

The connections on the PDA-V100HD can be seen here.

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/images/prod...back_large.jpg

As you will see input 2 is for component video and stereo audio, which is the one you would use for the Wii.

I have a PDA-V100HD (ex-display) but in mint condition available if you are interested.

Re: Pioneer PDA-V100HD AV Converter

Hi,

I've never used mine for audio.

However, I presume that the unit will pass the audio to the monitor via the hdmi cable as there are no audio outputs on the V100HD unit.

A slight bonus is the scart input so you could put a freeview box onto the system as well.
