lutron remote problems

hi I have two lutron rania dimmers that are beside each other and are both ir ones , one is a double the other a single but I have problems when using the standard remotes as the single remote turns the double up or down aswell
what can I do to seperate the lutrons so they work as I expected lutron have told me that this is not possible but I refuse to belive this as they didn`t seem to know hardly anything when I contacted them
I have just also recieved a grx it remote as thay said this would help with the control but when using it all it seems to do is turn all three of the zones on together , where i was under the impresion that this would give me control over the three zones , so I must assume I am doing this wrong please help with this annoying situation

thanks col

Re: lutron remote problems

Unless you can program them with different remote codes (which i would expect lutron to know then your stuck) something like Welcome to SceneStyle.co.uk - The Stylish Way To Control Your Lighting would be more suitable to give IR control of 3 circuits as 4 preset scenes.

Re: lutron remote problems

What Lutron have told you is correct in that the two Ranias will not distinguish between each other.

Could you not just use the GRX remote to select a number of scenes?

You could even use the scene buttons to select which combination of lights you want on, then use the master raise and lower to adjust the levels as desired?

E.g: (Zone1/Zone2/Zone3)

• ON/ON/ON
• ON/OFF/OFF
• OFF/ON/OFF
• OFF/OFF/ON

Then use the master raise & lower to control the overall level to suit?

As far as I know, if the scene has a zone as being off, the master raise & lower will not change this? May be worth a try?

Re: lutron remote problems

Interesting, When I asked Lutron the same question at the back end of last year they said that they both use different IR codes and would be independent.

Did you get through to technical or just customer support?

Cool Re: lutron remote problems

I have got this working on two double Rania's side by side. You need to use the Rania's scene setting abilities but the Rania remote will not provide this function. Lutron say this will not work but they appear to be just protecting the Grafix Eye sales by not admitting the Rania's can do the scene setting.

I use a Logitech Harmony to control mine (any model will do and you can also use the Pronto remotes to do the same). The required IR codes are already in the Logitech database.

To set the scene first set the light levels to whatever you want for Scene 1. Press and hold down the Scene 1 button on the remote until the lights on the dimmer flash. Repeat this for up to 4 different scenes. Assign the scene buttons to buttons in the activities on the Logitech remote and away you go!

I have had this working without issues for three months and I can control the lights from anywhere in my 10m x 5m room and the lights fade perfectly between scenes.

Hope you can get a refund on the remote that Lutron sold you!

No, just info my rep told me when discussing various systems.

Seemed logical at the time, so didn’t going into any further depth; may be wrong though.

Although the standard Rania remote does not provide scene setting (as you stated), the Grafik Eye remote (GRX) does provide this capability; therefore colw1 should hold onto the remote to get this function (unless he has a learning remote).

Essentially the GRX provides the same scene setting functionality as your Harmony remote.

Re: lutron remote problems

The remote may give scenes but as soon as you want to raise or lower the light level all zones move with it not really ideal when I was after independent control

Re: lutron remote problems

As far as I am aware it works like this. Each individual Rania control has one or two zones. So a single has a zone 1 and a double has a zone 1 and a zone 2. On a harmony remote (and perhaps its the same on the GRX remote) you get individual controls for zone 1 and zone 2. So in your case Zone 1 up would raise the level on two zones (as you have 2 x Zone 1) and zone 2 up would raise just the one zone (Zone 2 on the double). Perhaps not quite what you were after but closer than just using the master up and master down controls. I have tried this and confirm that this is how my two doubles respond.
