Lutron Lighting Questions

Hi Folks,

I've had a bit of a search but i'm sure with many things these sorts of questions are usually fairly unique.... oh and i'm quite new to this but interested in learning, figuring the best way to do so, is to do it myself!

I've just returned from a brief holiday in Bruges (fantastic place btw..) and the place we stayed in had a rather nice Lutron system controlling audio in the room, lighting etc.... in a moment of shock the other half said to me;

"this is rather good, why don't we have it at home?"

Obviously after i'd picked myself up off the floor i vowed to research this ASAP! Our flat is fairly small so i'm not sure we need the audio streaming, though being able to stream audio from the HTPC in the lounge to ceiling speakers in the bathroom and bedroom could be something to consider.... i can't seem to find any mention of them doing audio streaming anymore either!

Initially i'd like to control the system in the lounge/kitchen/diner area which currently consists of a single three way switch - there is:

- A main circuit for the kitchen which is 4 ceiling mounted halogen bulbs (one switch)
- A main circuit for three wall lights which are conventional bulbs (one switch)
- A circuit that controls a lamp wall plug which has a halogen lamp plugged in (one switch)

There also happens to be a blank wall plate next to the three way, which from what i've seen may be useful as Lutron don't seem to do anything that does three things at once in a single unit... I'd happily put a non-IR one for the kitchen system (though there doesn't appear to be a huge price difference!), but i would like IR so i can control the lights from my Harmony remote for the 'lounge'

Depending on the simplicity (or rather complexity) of this i'd consider replacing the bedroom one also which has two wall lights and also two lamp wall sockets for bedside lamps - IR a bonus here as i'm usually very tired and lazy when heading to bed....

As said above, the idea of streaming media as per the hotel appeals, but i'm guessing that isn't going to be cheap or easy!?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated...

Thus far i'd looked at these:

Lutron Rania Single 500 Watt Incandescent IR Remote Control Light Dimmer - RISI-452H-I - lutron lighting | eu online shop - for the kitchen light (or maybe the wall system would be better isolated?)

Lutron Rania Dual 250 Watt Incandescent IR Remote Control Light Dimmer Kit - RPDI-252H-I - lutron lighting | eu online shop - for the main system

Thanks

Scott

Re: Lutron Lighting Questions

Hi Scott,

I've got IR Lutron dimmers in my lounge and they are very good. To be honest I didn't know Lutron offered and audio solution, but I may be wrong??

Re: Lutron Lighting Questions

I have got this for my cinema, it works very nicely. My Harmony One even works out of the box with the IR dimmer.

Ian.
