Where to buy a Remote Control Mains Socket adapter thingy

Does anyone know were I can buy a good remote control mains socket. Not the actual face plate but something you plug in and then plug your 4 way into it.

I'd like to be able to power off my plasma and amp at night but the sockets are behind the stand and impossible to reach.

Is this a good way of doing it, or do I really need to replace the face plate

B&Q sell a few different options if you have one nearby? I just bought a pack of three with remote for £19.99 which controls each of the three devices individually, or all as a group. I use mine for three lamps and it works well

The other option is a 'Bye Bye Standby' Intellipanel. These automatically turn on and off, cutting power to all other devices plugged into it. You chose a 'master' device, I use my amp with mine which is plugged into the master socket. You also have a remote control sensor for turning it on that you train to recognise the On/Off signal of this master device.

When you push the On button on you master sockets remote, it powers up the panel and everything plugged into it goes into standby, as if the switch on the wall had just been flicked on. You can then turn things on as normal.

When you turn the master device off, the panel recognises the drop in current and after 30 seconds, turns everything else off, again as if the wall switch has been flicked.

You have an 'always on' socket too, for Sky+ or other PVR's so they still record even when everything else is off.

No extra remotes are needed and it's also an 8-way surge protecting power strip.

Maplin do quite a few and some quite well discounted. Bought a 6 gang power strip with 2 switched for £14.99. Triggers by the stand by on my remote. Only downside is that whenever any remote is used the green led flashes on the power strip, apart from that it works a treat

I too have one, and that green led is very bright & annoying. Easily resolved with a self adhesive anti scratch felt pad stuck on top of it.

I also have some of the B&Q Home Easy branded sockets. They work and do a good job, but after buying a Logitech Harmony remote I was disappointed to discover they are RF not IR. Hence the Standby Saver purchase, which is IR controlled.

You could also get the masterplug 4 pack sockets with remote for £5.99 in Home Bargains shop if you have one near. I bought them they are pretty good especially for a branded name.
