PCI DVR Card suggestions?

Hi all,

I'm looking at setting myself up a home cctv system with 2 cameras (possibly 3 or 4 in future).
I'm looking for a PCI DVR card that i can put into a PC that i will also in future be using for a media server.

So, i'm after a card that can record from upto 4x cameras with decent software that allows web access too if possible.
Preferably the card would support Linux as well as Windows.

Hopefully somebody can suggest something for me, as all i can seem to find are these ones from Hong Kong on eBay and don't know if they are any good.

Re: PCI DVR Card suggestions?

I brought a cheap card from eBay with 8x bt878's on it, and used the drivers from WDM Video Capture Driver along with BlueIris to provide the web interface.

Each bt878 will manage 25fps at 4CIF, so if you get one of the <£10 cards with only 1 chip and 4 inputs, you will probably only get 5fps from each camera.

This seems to be the cheapest way to do it, but if you want better quality or reliability, it would be worth looking at one of the GeoVision cards.

Cheers,
Rich

Re: PCI DVR Card suggestions?

A quick look on eBay turned this up in Hong Kong (not ideal I know) eBay Link but I can't see from the picture if they are the 878's or not - so it would be worth checking with the seller.

Most of the UK cards I have found were the decent brands such as GeoVision, so were >£200

What sort of budget do you have for the system?

Re: PCI DVR Card suggestions?

hi,

Sorry, completely forgot about this thread.
I've actually gone for a card form Maplin: PC DVR-4-Net™ Security Guardian 4-Camera CCTV PCI Card > Maplin

It's probably not as good as the geovision cards, but to be honest, the budget doesn't allow for much more, as i'm also splashing out on a HTPC build along with this.

thanks for your help anyway!

Re: PCI DVR Card suggestions?

No probs, I did something similar and built a HTPC and put the cctv card in as well.

I'm only finally getting around to permanently fixing the cameras this weekend though!

Rich.
