Home alarm advice required-where to even start??

Hi all,

As per title really, we are considering a home alarm system, but have absolutely no idea where to begin!

We were at the Ideal Home show and got a quote of £1100 installed for a wire free system from www.lockedupltd.com (they also said they would throw in 6 months worth of monitoring, which is normally £15 per month).

The kit included PIRs, 2 x remote key fobs, main control panel, 1 x contact for the upstairs bathroom window (as it's next to the flat garage roof) and a contact break detector for the window at the top of the stairs (again, as it is above the flat garage roof).

The kit and the deal seemed "ok", but we don't really have anything to compare it to!

All thoughts/advice/recommendations are welcome.

We have a fairly standard 3 bed semi with a driveway/garage/utility room/living room patio doors (plus 1 x lazy cat! ) if that helps?

Try starting here Security Products , installed mine recently and all OK.
Brought two kits so that I could have 4 PIR's, 2 doors, 2 key fobs etc. Free monitoring for 3 months then £5 per month from BT.
Total set up inc 2 extra key fobs (4 proplr in the house) = less than £150.

That's excellent, thank you.

However.....as I'm not a DIY-er, I'd need someone to install anything that we get.

How would I go about finding someone?

You recommend buying another kit (so a total of £117.50) to get 2 extra PIR sensors, another remote fob and another door sensor but individually, 2 x PIRs comes to an extra £23 and another remote is £12.28 ( so an extra £36 or so).

The only advantage I can see is that buying a second kit would also give you another door sensor (which I can’t see listed separately anywhere).

It looks like a good bit of kit though and one that even I may be able to install!

Could a "door sensor" actually be used as a window sensor?

Just one more question (for the moment!)....

How does this unit connect to your phone line to be able to dial out in the event of it getting triggered?

It plugs into the telephone line just like any telephone does, download the instructions link I gave and it is all in there. It really is EASY to install.
Open box,
Install the backup battery.
Plug into mains
Plug into telephone socket
Activate account
Screw onto the wall (But do note the warning on the web site regarding removal of the wall bracket, it is a hidden screw behind the front cover of the battery compartment)
Stick up the sensors (double sided strong tape supplied)
