Help with dimmer switch set up!

Hi

I have decided to do something about the lights in my living/Dining room.

I have one dimmer that controls both of them, (so when one comes on the other does as well) I want to split them so I can turn them on seperately.

I have looked and the dimmer switch I have is rated at 250w. Does that mean I should get a split dimmer switch rated at the same?

Thanks guys

Re: Help with dimmer switch set up!

To run them seperatly you will another switch wire - unless there is two in there?

What type of light fittings are they and whats the wattage of the bulbs.

Re: Help with dimmer switch set up!

There is two in there already, one to each light fitting.

In one fitting is an energy saving light bulb (yes I know you shouldnt have this but it was put in by the previous tenants) so that will be swapped and in the other is a regular bulb which is rated at 60W.

I was also thinking that I would change these for lower rated ones to save some energy.

Thanks

Re: Help with dimmer switch set up!

Ok, as long as the two cables in there are switch wires. If the neutrals are conected one is the supply and one is the switch.

Im not up to scratch with the ratings of dimmers but as long as you cover you 120w (2 x 60w) then you will be fine.
