Weird and troubling problem, ideas ?

Well I have a weird problem.

My lyngdorf stereo amp has a problem in that nigh on every other remote inadvertantly controls the volume up/down or power on off on this amp. On the other remotes every possible button does a different thing but it is always volume up/down or toggle power on off.

Quite annoying I think you will agree, but the main problem is that I don't think this early version can be updated to the latest firmware which should cure this. So I'm either stuck with an amp that won't stay still (bad for when setting speaker level as connected to av-amp pre-out to power my fronts), or I have to turn the remote off all together in the menu

I have blu-taced up the IR sensor atm, and only creating a small hole in to to limit access to the sensor still causes the amp to react to different remotes. I have thought, could I possibly use an IR extender set like the marmitek below ???? I was thinking that by taping up the IR transmitter LED cable over the amps sensor, then the amp might be less susceptible to this, or will it still likely cause the same problem ?
