outside pir light always on, why?

hi. just moved into my new house and i the previous owners had put a pir light outside. it was switched off when we moved in and so i switched it on.
to my surprise it never went out, just stays lit untill i turn it off at the wall.

can someone shed any light (sorry ) on this problem. i thought it may have been wired up wrong???

Re: outside pir light always on, why?

there are usually some dials that tell the light what to do - ie, on or activated by PIR, and sometimes also how long it should stay on. They often look like flat head screw heads.

Some of the lights also stay on if you turn them on-off-on in quick succession. Or maybe it's just knackered.

Re: outside pir light always on, why?

IT may be wired as ON from switch and Off from switch on on PIR ie turn the switch inside off and go outside when its dark and see if it turns on.
