Smoke Detectors - is it possible to buy a nice one?

Nice as in attractive?

I live in a 4yr old house and it has a mains-wired smoke detector in the living room - no bad thing - smoke detectors save lives!!

However, its an ugly thing. Its 50mm deep with a 130mm diameter and its sited in my living room above the door leading to the kitchen. I know why its there, etc.

Is it possible to purchase a smoke detector that can be flush fitted or is at least in some way decorative, because this fugly thing catches the eye (or at least my eye) all the time and bugs me something awful.

Thanks for any replies.

Thanks Jefff.

None of those really "rock my world", in as much as a smoke detector could. Are there any other links anyone has?

Can you tell me what search string you used to find those Jefff?

Thank you Jefff, very kind of you.

The only thing I could find on the net was "The Bosch 500 Series", which was from an American website. I tried the Bosch website to see if it was available in the UK (and UK spec'd), but can't find anything.

I found that one myself on a net search - I don't know if these things are universal spec regardless of which country one lives in.

As for the Bosch thing - I contacted them via their website, got passed around a bit, then promised a call back. To be fair to them, they just called me and it now seems that Bosch no longer make smoke detectors at all. Shame, because it was a nice looking thing.

I find it kinda odd that interior design is such a massive industry with people spending hugely to get their homes looking "just so", that there doesn't seem to be much of a market in "designer" smoke detectors. The two in my home are just plain ugly and they stand out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for the help Jefff, yer a gentleman
