Rako and Helvar controllers question

Can anyone tell me what the advantage of using a Rako rack 4 compared to 4xRDT Pills or 4xRDL250 modules.

You have to add the rf receiver as well with the rack so what would be the advantage? Certainly not cost?

Also does anyone know whether the Helvar digidim 4 system which can work with twin and earth to keypads requires more than one twin and earth to function.

Thanks

Fulltopuk.

Re: Rako and Helvar controllers question

Re. Helvar - all of the keypads require a single 2-core cable connection - they receive low voltage power and data down this cable (they use the Dali standard). The Dali connection comes from the Digidim 4 unit and must go to each keypad (assuming you have more than one) but you can wire in series (diasy chain) parallel or a mixture of the two as required. There are limits on the maximum number of keypads you can wire and to some extent this is also dependent on the cable size and length. That said you won't run into any of these in a Digidim 4 installation.

Well actually there are loads if the building was wired for another system you can use the RAK4 if you need more flexible loads use the Rak4 if you connect 4 x Rak4 ie 16 channels you still only need one reciever.

also you can compare 4 x RDL250 with 1 Rak4 as the Rak4 has a 2.5Kw total load max 1.2kw perchannel and 4 x RDL 250 has a 1KW total with a max of 250W per channel. if you only need 4 x 250W then use the RDL units simple

Re: Rako and Helvar controllers question

A limitation of the Rako pills can not dim low voltage fixtures. Another advantage of the RAK4 is that it can be used with both leading and trailing edge transformers while the RDL series only with leading edge.
