WHAT!!!!

Nothing is, or can ever be too complicated!!!

Sure my lights (and for that matter the rest of my house) is riddled with complexity, but that is good not bad!!

Re: My automated lighting

seems abit ott imo. you say the knob in each room only overrides the lights if they are brighter. so all your lights come on dimmed when you first enter the room? no low energy or led lamps in your house then. Another major problem you have not mentioned. When i go to bed i turned the lights off, how do you manage this? do you unplug the cable?

it would be much easier for you to install a seperate pir in each room that then feeds the dimmer switch on the wall. when you were in room you could then have full controll of weatehr lights were on, dimmed , or off. also each lux level could be set individually.

Re: My automated lighting

toastboy is reinventing the wheel, it can be done, but why? An accedemic exercise? Perhaps, a practical solution? i am not sure.

Re: My automated lighting

Sounds good as an academic exercise or a hobby, but what it want to know is what happens when something goes wrong at night!

My missus would kill me, but I'd really like to try something like that.

Anyone know of a spare house I can play in? :-)

Re: My automated lighting

Nothing wrong in using DMX dimmers, a basic tried & tested technology in every sense. Now doing the homebrew control on top is a brave step but then again it is much more fun than simply buying something that just works out of the box providing you enjoy the time spent playing with your kit and ironing out the gremlins. There are lots of DIY home automaters doing some very clever things although they would never become a commercial proposition nor are they intended to be. And every now and then an idea implemented in the DIY community can find its way into commercial systems at some later date.

Hats off to you for having the patience to get it all working in the way you want it to
