Question Home automation with Harmony 1000 -doalbe?

I want to bring my home cinema to the next level!

All devices are in my living room and because Pronto is way too expensive Im thinking Harmony 1000 (only IR?).

First, I have to buy IR transmitors/modules and connect them with my lights (5) i would love it if dimmers will also be included.
Second, Im not quite sure how will Harmony 1000 communicate with devices since one or two of them are behind/in my closet, cabinet?

So is it possible to buy, here on continent, somekind of converter from IR to z wave or something. Perhaps like this alien appliance. But I have no intention to drill in my walls or anything, only superficial damage can be done

So what do you suggest? What do I have to buy to control my lights, easiest way would to be to install something in my plugs/switches sockets right?

Re: Home automation with Harmony 1000 -doalbe?

Depending on what you wish to control a 100 may give you certain elements of automation

For kit behind closed doord you need the HArmony RF base about £60.

For light control look at Varilight IR dimmers there are some others too it depends on what sort of lights you have.

ALso look at Z-wave light controls etc http://www.z-wave.com/modules/iaCM-Z...p?id=231735296

The thing is I havent got a clue how or what to install to operate my lights by remote.

Im familiar with devices like this, you simply plug in your light and you are ready to turn it on/off via remote.. but I want to hide this module so nothing is visible.. arent there some in-wall modules or transmitors which you can install into your plug socket?

Is it possible to simply install somekind of dimmer into switch socket connect the wires and control the light?
Of course I assume that you need rf or zwave controller to do that but I can go with that..I ll just buy harmony 890 or perhaps even pronto.. I just need to know what is the easiest and nicest way to do that.

Re: Home automation with Harmony 1000 -doalbe?

Like I didtn try google before asking Qs here.. that is way I came here for help at first place..

I was hoping someone with already installed lighting system will explain me what to do and what do I need to do that, or how he did it?
I mean if someone asked me how did I connect my cables in my HT or how did I build my HTPC or what ever I would be glad to help him..

Anyways I assume Z wave is better choice at least wikipedia says so.

From Logitech about Harmony 1000 (source logitech.com forum)
At this time there are no plans to support Z-Wave lighting for Harmony 1000. The Z-Wave technology is used in the Harmony 1000 to communicate with a Harmony Wireless Extender. This allows you to control entertainment devices that are behind a cabinet door or located in another room. Logitech does support lighting and home automation with the Harmony 890 remote controls.

Kindest Regards,
The Harmony Support Team

Kindest Regards,
Don

I guess Ill go with 890 then?..
Can someone please just explain me what exactly do I need for installment, do I just buy something like this and it works..? (Im form EU so my switches are 8cmx8cm and plugs have only 2 holes-roundly shape)
