Hot water cylinder control

Is there any product on the market that allows progammable control over the temperature of a hot water cylinder?

What I am trying to achieve is the ability to run different temperature profiles at different times of day - allowing the cylinder "on" temperature to be reduced say in the middle of the day?

Re: Hot water cylinder control

Hi,

My central heating works like you say, not the hot water. Rather than be programmed to turn on and off at different times, it is permanently on. The programmer just changes the temperature at different times of the day and weekend, so it's at say 21 on an evening, 16 during the day etc. It may be that you can do something similar. My controls are Danfoss, maybe look into their product range to see what they have?

The plumbers that did mine have a website, and one of the plumbers always mans the phone. It may be worth your while giving them a call to see if they can help -

I imagine your rationale for wanting to do this is to reduce your energy costs, while still having hot water at the required temperature when you need it - similar to programming a room temperature profile. However, I really don't think there is any point in doing this. Provided your water cylinder is well insulated (as it should be), you might just as well switch off the water heating entirely between demand periods. The temperature will not fall significantly if no (or very little) water is being used, so no fine control is warranted.
