how to dim rope light

hi
a friend has put a independent light circuit in my loft cinema which i have 6 lights running off and a dimmer switch,i have now seen these rope lights which some people have been useing in their cinemas
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/DT611W.html
and would like to use them around the loft scirting boards,i will be useing a length of roughly 15 metres which will cover sides and back[3 sides] will leave projection wall alone maybe, what i need to know so i can show this to my mate what i need doing is that i want to control the rope light with a standard dimmer switch, how do you wire this rope light in would i be able to control the whole rope light off a seperate dimmer switch to my main lights,do i need a special dimmer switch for this rope light
thank you

Re: how to dim rope light

Are you planning to connect the rope lights via a 13amp plug to the mains or by directly intergrating into a lighting circuit?

May give the experts a little more steerage!

Re: how to dim rope light

was thinking of buying the ropelight with the cable with the plug on then cut the plug off and wire this cable into a junction box which would be on the lighting circuit with dimmer connected to the circuit.
this might be totally wrong i would like to know the correct way also its not a job i will be doing it will be a friend who is good with electrics,i just want to get an idea if i could use the ropelight but dim it down this way or is there other ways to dim the ropelight.
i was after a good and cheap way of getting ambient light around the skirting or just behind top of skirting.
i might just try and save some more cash and go the apollo kit tubes way,ive already asked noodleman for a quote on a kit and if it will work in loft setup,i do have some of the ikea coloured tubes behind my plasma so will try these when loft is finnished to see what effect they give
cheers

Re: how to dim rope light

Well the TLC rope light is dimmable, I've got ir around my kitchen cabinet plinths and dim it via my lighting controls. I connected it using via a junction box to the circuit that also feeds my low voltage wall cabinet lights just as you describe and it works perfectly.
