Fitting varilight in living room

hi

recently i bought a varilight dimmer 1 gang for our bedroom and it works great , very simple for me just to swap it over from my old dimmer switch

anyway ive decided id like to fit a 2 gang varilight dimmer in my front room to go with my home cinema , like this

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VLIQ1402.html

but unfortunatly its a little more complex than my bedroom as i have this switch fitted

the 2 switchs that are on are connected to my lighting but the 3rd switch is connected to the box on the wall (anyone know what this box is ?)

its near the ceiling and i havnt got a clue what it is ? been there since i moved here , id really like to get it blanked off but im not to sure how to blank the wiring off , any help would be great

Thanks

Re: Fitting varilight in living room

The plate with a hole looks like some kind of flex outlet, maybe used with a wall light fitting previously (or fitted in place of a wall light that was removed by the previous owner?

In any event if you isolate the power to the circuit at the fuseboard/consumer unit you can then disconnect the cables from the switch and plate and pop them into suitable terminals - simply remove them at either end one at a time so you don't get mixed up especially if there are more than one cable in a terminal. Once they are safely disconnected you can then fit you blank plate and replace the switch.

hi thanks , but im a little confused by "pop them into suitable terminals" as its the flex plate switch im going to struggle with , do you mean pop them into suitable terminals on the new light switch or something else sorry

also the wiring that is going to the flex plate how would i blank those wires off as they will just be dangling behind the blanking plate , i presume i wouldnt want these live anymore ?

Thanks
