Dimmer Switch

I want to change my standard on/off switch to a dimmer type one. I have been looking around and have not had too much luck. Ideally, i want one the touch sensitive ones

Does anybody have any experiences of them, are they reliable and good quality compared to the normal dimmer switches?

I have seen the following on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2-GANG-MAT...QQcmdZViewItem

Does anybody have anything similar to this switch? Or do people have any other recommendations on what kind of switch i could use?

I am also thinking of buying the remote control to go with the switch, although, on the listing, it says i can use another remote. Does anybody know if my Denon remote (AVR-3805) can be programmed to use with the lights?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Re: Dimmer Switch

Yo

I bought something that looks just like that but a single switch version, from B&Q. It works a treat - dimming controls and easy, and just passing your finger over it to turn it on/off is really cool!

It 'learns' any infrared signal in the spectrum, so any infrared remote will work with it. My 2307 remote works fine, so your 3805 should be OK too. To program it, tap it 6 times until it the light starts flashing on and off, then point your remote at it and press the desired button. Then tap is once more.

Hope this helps

Jezzer

Re: Dimmer Switch

I have a couple of these switches

1. a varilight 1 gang 400W (could be 600W - not sure?)
2. a varilight 2 gang 400W

The first switch I have connected to 6 x 50W GU10 fittings and I have absolutely no trouble with whatsoever.

The second switch however has given me some problems. It is controlling 2 rooms each with 6 x 50W GU10 fittings. One of the gangs started to play up. After working ok for about 3/4 months it started to intermittently flash the lights when touched and then go off. I then needed to reset the switch by removing the power to it for 3/4 secs. It then worked ok for a while until it happened again.

TLC were excellent and replaced the switch immediately. They even sent me a postage paid return label.

The new switch was actually worse! It did the same thing but on a more regular basis! TLC put me in touch with an expert on these fittings. He was a great help and suggested that some cheap 50W GU10 draw a lot more watts when first switched on. This may be overloading the switch. He suggested replacing the 6 x 50W with a lesser wattage (e.g. 6 x 35W) and see if this helps.

I haven't got around to doing this yet but I'll let you know if it works.
