Varlight Dimmers and Flickering

All,

I seem to have problem with varlight dimmers and my lights, I have a light with four times 40w bulbs and when I install a varlight dimmer (the 400w one), the lights flicker on a dim settings, I have changed the light fitting ( same style ) and the varlight dimmer, but it still happens ?,

Has anybody got any ideas, or come across the problem ?

Are the lamps mains or low voltage?
What type of lamp are they ie Halogen etc?

Re: Varlight Dimmers and Flickering

Is it in a low-depth box in the wall ? I think they need a bit of air around them to stay cool.

Re: Varlight Dimmers and Flickering

Hi,

the light fitting is ceiling mounted and the dimmer is in a standard metal backbox.

Thanks for the replies

Re: Varlight Dimmers and Flickering

It really sounds as if the lamps are not going to be effective at very low levels.
It is probably dimming to such a low level that the lamps are turning on and off.

Re: Varlight Dimmers and Flickering

I had this issue and it was caused by not using the right varlight bulbs. I switched to the dimmable version and this stopped happening.
