Security floodlight wiring

Can anyone help?
Moved into a new house and am trying to get the 500w PIR floodlight to work. Says manufacturer is the IQ group which is not in the manufacturer's list. It's not wired up, but has wires from the light as follows: L1=Black, L=Brown, E=Earth and N=Grey. Inside the house, on the supply, they have tried to use a manual switch. The supply is Brown, Earth and Blue. I've tried to connect the manual switch across the 2 browns and connected the grey to the blue supply. I ignored the black. This causes the light to keep clicking/switching.
Could anyone advise me of the way to connect it as I've searched the net using the model number (AGS 63-120-500-b) but to not avail.

You've got the wiring right - in the floodlight you have L(ive), N(eutral), E(arth) and L1. L1 is a separate switched live used for additional lighting that you want to be controlled by the main unit PIR/photocell.

You can test the unit by turning the Time adjustment to minimum, usually fully anti-clockwise and turning the light level to maximum, usually clockwise. This should allow the light to switch on in daylight when the PIR is triggered and stay on for upto 10 seconds after the last movement is detected. If it works in this mode then you need to turn the Time adjustment up to your preferred level and turn the light level fully anticlockwise so that it only switches when it is reasonably dark. If the problems return when dark then it could be that reflected light from the floodlight is being picked up by the photocell in the units sensor. In this case turn the light level sensor clockwise until the problem goes away or reposition the light to avoid so much reflected light getting back to the sensor.

If this does not fix the problem then the light is probably faulty. You can buy IQ floodlights from Screwfix for around £25.

I agree with what Neil has said but as its a new house (to You) have you cheched the basics ie have you got live and neutral at the lamp?Or are you just assuming you have?

I am a bit concerned a bout the manual switching you mention ....is this a switched fused spur?If it s off the lighting how does the neutral get there,does it come via a ceiling rose?

Have you got a Steinel a Multi Meter or similar tester (not a neon screwdriver).

If not try connecting a simple plug and lead (3 amp fuse) and see if it works......and of course is the halogen lamp OK...if you put them in a bit off centre they dont make contact.
The essence of this sort of thing is really to test and see what you have dont just try things and hope.
