floor uplighting

I wish to light my garage conversion (16'x16') using colour changing and dimming uplighters around the edges. This is predoninantly for cinema use but will also be for general entertainment purposes.

The room will be a chocolate brown colour so will it be a wasted effect if not used with white walls? Has anyone used this sort of product using alternative colour schemes?

Pricing and pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: floor uplighting

uplighters on the wall or in the floor?

LED is probably going to be the best solution for colour changing.

Chocolate brown and coloured lights doesn't sound nice. Some normal white LV halogen downlights would be a good idea. Then maybe think about LED strip lighting for accent colour, but not on brown walls though.

Re: floor uplighting

Ideally on the floor; my builder says downlighters will compromise the sound proofing job he is doing.

Unfortuantely I think you will be right re the brown and coloured light mix; with that in mind, I will just need white dimmable floor lights around the edges, controllable, hopefully using existing AV remote.

Thanks.

Re: floor uplighting

be careful with floor uplights. the result is often unusable, as you get a lot of glare - look down and you see right into the light. you'll need to fit narrow angle lamps, and I'd suggest the kind that have the lamp set into the fitting, so you'll see the lamp if you stand right on top of it.

the other thing to be careful of is heat. lights will get hot. hot lights can burn tiny feet without shoes/socks on, and you don't want that. as well as hot lights setting fire to something placed on top of them.

wall lights might be more practical. maybe white light from some wall uplights, and coloured cove lighting.

brown walls...hmmm

Re: floor uplighting

Bruce,

What have you got against brown Initially the room was to be pure cineama, therefore lighting has been a very late consideration (no lights wanted during film watching; also the brown was to stop reflections from the screen, ironically this also now limits any lighting effects as that will not reflect either.

I now wish to use for Poker once a month and also for other entertaining and so to keep things simple (realistic), I just need lighting which can be dimmed from my seating position. One reason for floor lighting over wall was to hide electrics in the false floor rather than channelling in to sound proofed walls.
