Is there a single button infra red remote (for use with Varilight)

I'm planning on getting a Varilight remote dimmer for the bedroom. I'm aware that you can assign a spare button on a remote to operate it. I do have a Sky+ remote in the room for use with the TV, but all the buttons on that of course are assigned for use with the TV itself.

What I want is a dead simple cheapo remote (2 in fact - one for me and the missus). The fewer buttons the better, so that it can be easily controlled in the dark. Does anyone know of anything that will do the trick?

These come pre-programmed....

Thanks, I've seen them - but they're pig ugly and with 7 buttons I don't need. I'm also aware that any remote can be used to operate the switch. It's not the remote controller that needs programming but the switch itself which is programmed to learn the command from a remote.

Just been thinking - I may pop down to Poundland and have a look!

I'd still ideally like something dead simple, perhaps key fob sized, with one single button.

True, but bare in mind that you'll need to re-programme each switch after any power cut, whereas the pre-programmeremote will always work the switch.

I don't think I've experienced a power cut in over 30 years...though I do have a curiously fond recollection of the 3 day weeks and huddling round the candles!

Re: Is there a single button infra red remote (for use with Varilight)

Can anyone who's got a Varilight comment on how receptive the receiver is? I'll be using them in a coulple of rooms in which I have Prontos, which tend to flood the room, so I guess they'll be OK there. But in the bedroom there is a bit of a corner and I'll be using less powerful remotes than Prontos. Are they quite responsive or do I need to be square on with them?

Re: Is there a single button infra red remote (for use with Varilight)

Have found mine to be fairly responsive, using a kameleon I often find they will react when not even pointed at the item (probably a similar effect to what you are suggesting with your Pronto's).

Regardless before I had the Kameleon the remote linked above would work fine from very tight angles....

Do you know how to put the dimmer into learn mode? i.e. tap the receiver touch button 6 times?

Tap button 6 times which makes the lights flash then stop. Press remote button. Lights turn on then off again. Press remote button again, lights turn on and off twice indicating success. That should be it.
