Rope light around the room ceiling ?

I like the look of having a rope light around the top of the wall / ceiling.
What height is it best to build the small cornich (that hides the rope light )from the ceiling to allow light from the rope light to illuminate the edges of the ceiling but hide the rope light
I wanted to build it as small as possiable but not sure if a small 2 inch or so gap would let enought light to escape.
I have seen others on the forum but they seem to be a lot larger ?

I have used it in a kitchen, I have tall 1200mm wall units that go right up to the ceiling about a one inch gap from cornice to ceiling, I also used it around the base of the floor units concealed under the cupboards against the kickboards. Looks fantastic I get a nice glow from both top and bottom, my floor tiles are dark grey granite unpolished so I don't get a mirror effect reflection just a nice soft glow.

I would suggest you leave enough space to be able to access and install the rope lights thats all, no real heat comes off them, you can also use any paint finish on your walls and ceiling just make sure it is a matt finish to give a glow rather than a reflected light.

lots of different colours, if its for AV room maybe a blue or red just softly glowing might look good! I used white in my kitchen...they also do the corner connectors and joining pieces well worth it to get a nice even distribution.

I agree with everything KevR has posted. The TLC ropelight can also be dimmed which means you can make the effect as subtle as you like.

Another product you may want to look at which will give a better overall effect is LED Neon Flex. See:

This gives a continuous glow rather than discreet pockets of light. Also, is very easy to work with when installing.

At what price, that stuff is so expensive 60 quid for less than a metre! if I was to use it in my kitchen it would have cost me 900 quid...bit to rich for me.
