Advice on a basic "remote control plug" for use with Harmony 525

Hello. Basically I have a socket/plug I'd like to switch on withy my TV via my Harmony remote control. (It's for lighting in my TV corner).

Would this: http://www.uk-automation.co.uk/appli...le-p-1181.html do the trick alone? I assume that I can get the code from the Harmony site to operate the plug? All I want is on/off, no dimming or anything smart?

Or are there better alternatives?

Thank you!

as long as its IR not IRDA and correct wattages etc fr lighting and the modules IR reciver is visible to the remote should be fine.

However the one you linked to is RF not IR and not compatible (unless you get an IR-RF box)

I dont know of anything X10 style for IR but a varilight in a pattress box is a heath robinson method you could possibly use

I cant find any simple IR sockets. You'd have thought (I'd have thought) they'd be pretty common. I guess I can see the logic behind radio, but as most remotes are IR (all in one types) I'd have thought the demand pretty big for something like this.

So would I have to buy an X10 command module of some sort to take the IR signal, AND an X10 plug? Seems a lot of money for what I want.

yep which is why a home made varilight mounted in a box would be beeter and cheaper i can think of a couple things similar to what you want but they are mega bucks B&O LC1 etc

I have been asking the same question in the LCD and remote control forum. I picked up a socket from Maplins but it is RF not IR so did not work so back it will go.

Right guys found this which may help some, Its a US product so may be suitable for Europe ie designed for 110V not 230V but may be worth digging around in mobility shops/sites....http://www.abledata.com/abledata.cfm...trail=22,10445
