Thanks: Gave 227, Got 82 | Hi-Def multi-room video distribution
Okay guys and gals here's one for you. . . .
I am about to build a new house, and want audio and video distribution throughout the house. So far I have decided to go with QED Systemline S4.4 with Kramer S-Video unit. Now this is great and will give me S-Video with stereo to every room (except the cinema; this will have all its own gear! ).
Here lies the issue. With every room likely to have its own Hi-Def LCD or Plasma screen and Hi-Def TV on the way, how do I get DVI or HDMI, bearing in mind that sky will be using HDCP, distributed to the rooms, and can DVI/HDMI travel very far? I have not been able to find a video distribution unit that will do the job, does anyone know of anything that will be coming, or is the answer to convert to Component and then pipe this around?
Ian.

The problem is that no one really knows how distribution will work at the moment. Particualy due to the fact that there has not been a format standard set for the distribution.
I have a friend that has just moved to Skys Technical department and as soon as they anounce something then I should hear about it, but as yet everything is very quiet on the HiDef side.
It will be interesting to see what is available at this months CEDIA trade show but there certianly was not anything shown at the Smart Home Show and several people asked about it in my seminar session.
Sorry to be no help what so ever!
Chris

would recommend cat5 or cat6 around the house... connect them all into central network media hub room
also you can get cat5 to video convertors...
as vex said though not sure what you will need for high def
xbox 360 will make things interesting though and might be what you need with a cat5 or cat 6 network
let us know if your investigations come back with any other solutions... will be doing the same thing myself

I am planning to run cat6 throughout the whole house, in trunking. This way we can replace with cat7 (or higher) if need be later.
I have to say, the fact that my wife's business deal with commercial TV and Satellite systems and professional home cinema is really not a bad thing!!

I have a client presenting this challange to me. He has 8 HD DLP tv going in his home. The only method I have found is using a HDAV switchers that utilize the component Video. Some also allow coaxial audio for digital audio. You can also use Video switchers but it is easier to convert the VGA connectors to component. They claim that it will support 1080I.
Key DIgital, GEffen and Network Technologies are several manufacturers I have researched.
