Multi Room Video and Audio

Hi

I am looking to send audio and video to each room in the house, but I have a lot of sources.
The Nexus multiroom audio and video is looking good at the moment. However the idea of having all my CD’s and DVD’s on a PC that could be called up from anywhere is also quite appealing. However if I went down the multi media PC route I would have problems when it cam to my laser disk player for example.
But I guess using the nexus, A Multi media PC could be used as one of my sources, but then is there any decent software available which would show on screens around the house to select films or audio over the nexus system.
Any ideas, suggestions or any other input would be much apreciated.



The sources I have include

2 CD Jukeboxes

2 Digital TV Boxes

1 Laser disk Player

1 DVD Player

1 Sky Satellite

1 Motorised satellite

CCTV System

Radio Tuner

Multi Media PC – MP3 – Video

1 Wurlitzer jukebox with audio outputs



There are probably thirteen rooms which I would want to route each of the above sources, 1 room would have a home cinema set up with surround sound.

It would be usefull to be able to use the Multi media PC in each room for MP3 video Web etc, but would require a decent menu system to access this.

What sort of budget do you have, have you seen the Opus or Livingcontrol systems

Why note take a look at the Crestron Audio and Video distribution system. There are upto 16 YUV inputs for video and audio. The system is modular and will cover up to 32 outputs. These signals can be sent via CAT-5 for video and audio or line level to amps on the audio.

You can also send local audio and video souces back around the system from the rooms that the signal goes to.

The Crestron will then also control all of the sources that you have going into the system as well as the local display sources. If you use the 10" WiFi touch panel you can use the Remote Desk top to view the menu from the frolm the media server and receive feed back from devices in the rooms.

The only thing that limits you is the budget. Have a look at www.crestron.com and look at products CNX-BIPAD8A, CNX-PVID8X3, CNX-RMCLV and TPMC-10 in the products section of the website.

There is nothing to stop you running the screen output from your central pc through the nexus and then using an IR keyboard and mouse to control it from various rooms.

Nexus verses Crestron, imo yes you get lots of bells and whistles with Crestron but you will certainly pay for it.

Opus vers Nexus, I would check the IR routing control, from memory both the Opus and the QED Systemline Modular do not route the IR, they just blast it to what ever wants to listen. Hence if you have 2 of 3 matching devices then the will all change. The Nexus route the IR to the device you are using.

In fact from what I here about the Systemline video is that there is no option to route the audio across to the tv point, not sure about the opus version
