Dimmer Switch For Multi Blub Low Voltage Ceiling Light

Help, I fitted THIS lamp last winter with the intention of running it through a dimmer switch.
I tried the one's from B&Q which stated for use with low voltage lights. Now can someone explain, are these "low voltage" dimmers for use after a low voltage psu or for use to operate a low voltage psu from the mains?
Reason I ask is the one I tried did buzz a lot, quite concerningly but then one of the connecting screws had it's thread stripped & would not tighten down on the wire.
I never got round to trying another.

Want to get this sorted now with the nights rolling in. Can someone suggest what I need for this light fitting?

The transformer in the light fitting itself is not not suitable for dimming (very few lights of this type have dimmable transformers) so no matter what dimmer switch you have it cannot be used with that particular fitting.
