The price

The RAV232+ is 2-way, but the ProntoScript doesn't do any. The RA232+ is 9600 baud, the RAV232 can be either 1200 or 9600 baud (switched via a terminal program command). The Pronto will not run @ 1200 baud.

Go for the RAV232 and don't forget that you'll need a 12v PSU (and an RFX9600).

i will be integrating the rav232 with a rak4 and rfx9600 indeed..not quite sure on where to start if im being honest but will give it a try,

thanks for the recommendation

If you're not technical, you may struggle with the programming. Have a go though.

Re: rav232 or rav232+ when using pronto

Can I just confirm from reading the above thread, that the Rako PS software written for the Pronto TSU9600 can make NO use of 2-way information from the RAV232 (+) unit?

If this is the case, is there likely to be that feature in the future? I don't want to get the cheaper unit and then wish I had the features of the more expensive (+) unit at a later date. However, of course if the TSU9600 will never be able to take advantage of the 2 way features of the RAV232(+) unit, then there is no point spending the (considerably) higher cost for the unit!

Thanks

The module isn't 2-way, although we did look into it early on in development (I think the code is still in the module). The reason for specifying the RAV232+ was that at the time the RAV232 was supplied set to a baud rate of 1200 which the Pronto won't do. V1.5.0 and later RAV232 modules are now supplied set to a baud rate of 9600 and will work with the Pronto out of the box (earlier RAV232 modules can be switched to 9600 via a terminal program command).

In theory using the RAV232+ the Pronto could be made aware of buttons being pressed, however this is of little practical benefit IMO.

Stick with the RAV232, but be aware that you may need to alter the baud rate for it to work.
