I need a new a CCTV DVR

I'm hoping to get some recommendations on make/type/seller for a CCTV DVR. I have a DVR CCTV solution in place but the DVR has had to be returned so I'm looking to replace it.

The spec of the last one was:
Make = No name, bought from Ebay for £300.
MPEG4 recording
9 CH Video
1 CH Audio
1 PTZ
50FPS
S/W Sensor Monitoring
500GB HD
Internet Access etc.
USB
VGA output
I have 5 cameras hooked up using BNC connections. The system is installed at my home.

This system was fine (before it died) except I thought the quality of the video display through the DVR and the record quality wasn't great. I put this down to the FPS record rate - (is this a correct assumption?) so am looking for something with at least 100FPS.

Also, should I be going for H264 instead of MPEG? Is the compression/quality that much better?

What are the must haves now with a CCTV DVR? Should I be looking for one that will take both Analog and IP cameras?

My budget is tops £500 but am looking for a quality robust DVR with a good feature set if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help. I've been through all of the posts over the last year on the subject but would still like to get some advice.

Thanks, I see from your sig that you are based in the U.S. Do you only sell from the US? I'm based in Ireland and would be looking to buy something suitable for the UK/Ireland and avoid customs charges and power issues.

Re: I need a new a CCTV DVR

Hi dazway,

The company I work for CHByron supply cctv to Makro in the UK, they currently sell a DVR250 (250gb) and I think some stores may have a DVR500 (500gb this was limited stock)

The stores that took stock of the 500gb are
Leeds,
Bristol,
Sheffield,
Glasgow,
Chester,
Manchester

all other makros just have normal cctv stock like the DVR250

I would suggest either contacting us on 01527 557700 or contacting your local Makro store. If you contact us im sure the helpdesk could give some more technical info.

We do also have sellers in ireland so if you do contact us we can point you in the right direction.

hope this helps
