New house and home automation/security - what can I expect it to cost?

Hi all

I've never even looked in this forum let alone posted, so apologies if my questions are a bit stupid. Basically, I'm in the process of buying a new house which needs some work doing to it. I'm thinking this is the ideal time to get messy works done, as we plan on working on the house for 6 weeks prior to physically moving in.

What I want to achieve is the following:
  • Wired or wireless burglar alarm & CCTV with alerts to my iPhone (I also have a NAS which could potentially be used for recording?)
  • Have some kind of automated lighting - Rako? - in at least 2 of the rooms
  • Distribute SkyHD to 3 rooms without the need for more sky boxes and their multi-room charges

The thing is, I have no idea just how much money this type of scenario will cost To give a better idea of the house, it's comprised of the following:

Ground Floor
  • 4 reception rooms plus kitchen
  • 8 windows
  • 4 entrances (inc front door, back door, 2 x sets of french doors)

First floor
  • 4 bedrooms & 1 bathroom
  • 3 x windows at the rear of the property which could be vulnerable to intruders

Any idea how much this might cost for either a wired or wireless install? From a CCTV point of view, I guess I'm looking at 4 cameras in various positions.

From a lighting perspective, one of my mates has recently had a Rako install and I was impressed. I'd be looking to add Rako to 3 rooms, with 3 scenes as well as the ability control variable dimming on the fly. Any ideas how much this would cost and what components I'd need? I've spoken to a few electricians as I need other work carrying out in the house, and none of them seemed to have any experience of Rako

Finally, does anyone know how I'd go about feeding Sky or freeview across the whole house? I appreciate it's going to be on a "same channel" basis, but understand this is possible? (want to route to 3 TVs - living room, kitchen and bedroom).

Any help would be appreciated And does anyone know any installers in the beds area?

Cheers
Matt

Re: New house and home automation/security - what can I expect it to cost?

Hi matt have a look at my signature! but there is alot of variation could be £250 for CCTV could be £2500!

Rako ball park is £150 per channel and £150 per keypad + install + vat, so a 4 channel room is £750 + VAT + install rough ball park (depend son the load on the channel programming etc etc etc)

For sky/ freeview distribtuion it depends on quality you need about the place but somewhere from £150- £1500 (for HD in every room)

Drop us a line if you want more detailed info/a quote.
