Question Display cabinet illumination

Would really appreciate a bit of help and advice please folks.
I have 2 Ikea floor-standing glass display cabinets showing off my Sideshow statues and busts. They look great during the day but at night.........nothing.

How do I illuminate the cabinets to give the best night effect? Now be gentle........in layman's terms please! And, I'm not made of money, would have to be a diy fix. All of my purchases have been budgeted very carefully.
Oh, and one last thing, I have a wife. Cutting holes in the ceiling is not an option. Would prefer some sort of ground up effect or, some sort of effect from behind the cabinets. I just want Iron Man, Sauron and the Lord of Darkness to look stunning!

Re: Display cabinet illumination

I use a company called Hellermann Tyton who have lighting strips that clip on to the rear side of your glass shelves and illuminate through the shelf itself and come out of the front. A very, very cool effect for just subtle blue illumination coming out from the glass itself.

A more DIY approach - get some LED rope light and a dimmer.

I was thinking of something similiar, do you have a link to the exact product your're referencing too and any idea of costs.

Re: Display cabinet illumination

Didn't mean Hellerman, meant Hettich! But I can't find what I'm looking for on their site, I got it out a lighting catalogue (they have about 20 catalogues each one 2" thick!!). It's in there somewhere:

Hettich - Technik für Möbel - Hettich UK - magic - lighting systems
