Hi...I have home cctv....it's fine durimg the day but the night vision is a bit naff....I ned to get a long range view...it had infra red LEDs inside the cameras but I was wondering if there was some way of improving the distance @ night....Could I buy external LED light thingies?

YOu can buy external LED IR illuminators which may help

I work for a very successful security company.

We use IR flood lights on some of our sites which work pretty well, im not to sure on where we get them from though. sorry

Additional IR's are pig ugly mate, they work well, but are designed for commerical application in mind, therefore function over looks. Additional lighting will go along way if you already have IR day night cameras. Put some lights in the areas you need covering rather than going for expensive IR's to project towards the required fields.

One way arround this ........if your cameras overlook a yard for instance is to fit the standard security lights ,the ones with PIR sensors . Of course if ,if the cameras are overlooking the street , it's not good having 500w lamps lighting up the area .
I've just purchased 2 LED lamps from e-b-a-y , 12v adapters are supplied too , they have a circular beam . I haven't tested the viewable range yet .
