I am looking to get a dimmer installed in my room which has the option of being controlled via a remote control, seeing as we forgot to fit another switch at the other end of the room!

My room has 2 sets of lights, all controlled by 1 on/off switch at the entrance of the room. I would like to control 6x 50w downlights (A) on a dimmer and the other lights, which at the moment is 3x 50w spotlights (B) on a fitting via on/off. Ideally I can control these seperate so the 3x spotlights (B) can be switched off whilst the 6x downlights (A) can be dimmed down whilst watching a movie etc.

I have seen a few things regarding X10 but I haven't a clue what I will require.

I am looking for an inexpensive solution, hopefully no more than £50 and be able to be controlled via an Harmony remote in the future.

Remotes available at the minute at SkyHD, Onkyo 875, Microsoft Media Centre Remote.

Does anyone know what the required gang depth is for a 2-gang single socket varilight?

Hopefully 16mm, otherwise it means more work.

i got a lutron dimmer for the same situation you have, you can get ones that have 2x control just remember to get a the 2x control remote, its not cheap but i am happy with it, you can also get an adapter so it sticks out more allowing it to fit in smaller boxes and i think it looks slicker as well.
