Question regarding wall light remote activation

Hi All,

I am new here and would like some advice.

I have a couple of power cables that are chased into the wall in my lounge that I would like to add 2 new wall lights to. The problem is that there are no switches that control these power cables (only at the consumer box) so I would need some sort of IR or RF control to be able to activate these lights.

I do not require dimming as these are LV lights that apparently do not support dimming.

So far the closest thing I can find is the GET GHACR IR ceiling receiver, the problem here is the power cables go up the wall so I would have to wall mount these units. Since they are 130mm long they are not very discreet.

From what I could see of X10 equipment is that they are not very aesthetically pleasing but I may not have looked at the right stuff.

Any ideas for how I would go about this?

Thanks,
Sunny!!

Re: Question regarding wall light remote activation

Where do these cables go ? the best way is to take a supply from your ceiling light ? or a known lighting feed ? must be on the lighting circuit ... you could then switch the lights also or are you after remote switching only ? its probably going to be a bit more complicated than you first thought..maybe a bit more info required ......

Re: Question regarding wall light remote activation

Thanks for replying so quickly. The supply is from a lighting circuit (checked this by switching off the downstairs lighting ring from the consumer box.)

I am only looking for remote switching as I dont fancy chasing cabling into the walls, would rather use what I have, and also one wall light will be above a display cabinet and the other one above my TV so they will be a bit inaccessible.

Has anyone used the GET SMART wireless products, it would be good to know if they would work.

these look like they will do what you need, you still need to find somewhere to put the module inline with the light feed cable, so that it can be remotely controlled though.

Re: Question regarding wall light remote activation

Thanks Tebo, I may get them and just mount them on the wall under the light unit, I just measured it and it should look fairly OK.

Re: Question regarding wall light remote activation

Hi All,

Its been a while but i thought I should update regarding this. I bought 2 GHACR ceiling receivers and GHAPT remote a couple of months ago but have managed to get it connected up this weekend gone. And the results are that it works a treat and doesn't look too bad (the wife thinks the ceiling receivers look like little grenades under the lights!)

So to sum up these do work, don't look too bad (best if they are hidden though) and quite easy to setup. Bear in mind I only really wanted to be able to switch the lights on and off, dimming is easy but I believe that my lights aren't designed for dimming.
