Hi,

Is there a silent air conditioning unit that I could use in my smallish home cinema room as it gets quite hot (especially in our humid muggy summers!). A dehumidifying type would be prefered too.

I do NOT have any windows to hang a hose out of and I don't want the unit to make any "thump" noises when it has "kicked-in". Also, it must be electrically stable and not introduce spikes or pollution into the mains.

Does anyone know of what that will suit ?

What's the size of the room in metres x metres ?

Nothing is completely silent, there are makes that are almost silent with very low power consumption that would be perfect.

For a room size of about 16 square metres 2.5kw of cooling should be enough, maybe go to next size up 3.5kw to allow for extra capacity if a few people are in the room.

Daikin are the best make I have installed, very quiet, lowest power consumption and reliable. Not cheap but they are the best.

If you buy a system that does heating also (heat pump) then most of the Daikin systems have a reduced 5% VAT rate, so they cost slightly less than a cooling only system.

Daikin Part numbers for latest models would be for a 2.5kw FTXS25D indoor unit with RXS25E outdoor
For 3.5kw FTXS35D with RXS35F

There are a few aircon installers on the forum, so maybe someone local will send you a message

if there is no outside unit how will the heat get out? through a vent? well then you will have the main noisy unit inside the room. Any electrical appliance with motors etc will cause electrical interfearance even your nabours houses will, but all electrical equipment should be able to filter this out, if not thens it not worth buying.

What about extracting the heat into the loft ?

Talking of lofts, wasn't there a system discussed on here last summer about a loft mounted system that can feed cool air to four bedrooms? ISTR that someone had two fitted, the second one to cool their cinema room and kitchen. This should be quiet as the outlet is remote from the A/C unit. Unfortunately I can't find the thread, as I would be interested in one as well.

hi,daikin are good but the likes of fuji and mitsubushi are there equal.the lofty is a ducted unit which similar units can do the same job at a reduced cost.by the way well serviced secondhand units shouldnt be ruled out either.
