Home security - random / automatic light timers

I'm looking for a more modern version of the light timers that you can use for home security. I'm talking about the little device that can be connected to your lights so that you can set the time that the lighjt will come on and go off. These are great unless you are on holiday for 2 weeks and your lights come on and go off at the same time every day for two weeks - surely an absolute dream for would-be-burglars!

I was wondering if the latest versions of these devices can be set to come on randomly, or talk to other devices so that when one light goes off another one comes on. Also, can these devices be connected to TV's, etc instead of just lights?

Thanks

Re: Home security - random / automatic light timers

Have a look at X10 which can do appliance and lighting control.
Rako has thre best solution for Holidays, the Optional time clock records every light operawtion for 2 weeks and can then be set replay the loop while you are away, so it produces the appearance of occupation

Re: Home security - random / automatic light timers

you could look at the homeeasy range
http://www.homeeasy.eu/home.php

Benefit being they are stocked in any B&Q, and pretty easy to use and set up. You can control lights or plugs via a remote control, and/or a timer - even SMS messages.

B&Q sell the homeeasy cheap remote/timer for just £14.99 (I think), or in a package with 1 or more plug in adaptors for £24.99

They also have remote control sockets now, so you don't have to have a seperate plug in adapter, you replace the socket itself.
