Two Dual-Gang Lutron Rania IR Dimmer Switches

If I have two dual-gang Rania IR dimmers in one room, can I control each of the four lights independently?

Same if I have 4 single-gang in one room. can they be controlled without any problems?

Thanks

Re: Two Dual-Gang Lutron Rania IR Dimmer Switches

Well, i've just found out that you cannot control 2x 2-gang IR dimmer switches independently. One dual-button remote control will operate both dimmers at the same time.

And, you cannot programme the lutrons to learn or respond to other remote codes.

How limiting from such an expensive range. Well, its back to the Varilights as they can be programmed.

Before connecting lighting into the dimmer switch, better to check load of lighting . The max. value of lighting load can not exceed load of the switch.

Users need to use one digital remote controller ---- which can name each equipment ( including lighting also ). Then they can realize control them successfully.

Re: Two Dual-Gang Lutron Rania IR Dimmer Switches

A wall mounted dimmer from lutron will simply dim the load that it is connected to. If you cannot switch off all four lights independently now then replacing any existing switches will make no difference.

If you are starting from scratch you could loop in and out of each lamp and run a separate switch cable to two separate double gang switches but this means chasing four switch cables!

You could consider some form of in-line control such as the Rako systems which can be retro fitted to existing wiring and controlled via ir through an ir interface and rf convertor or X10 modules which may be slightly more cost effective.

These options aren't cheap just to warn you, and you'd need a module for each lamp. Consider how much affect there is likely to be by removing 1 of the bulbs at a time and see if you thinks its worth it over and above being able to dim all four at the same time.

My dual lutron rania ir operates from my harmony remote? Both switches independently too.

Tons of discrete settings etc

Re: Two Dual-Gang Lutron Rania IR Dimmer Switches

You're all missing the point - admittedly the OP wasn't very clear.

What he means is if you have two single gang Lutron rania controls in one room controlling two independent lighting circuits, can you control them individually by remote? The answer appears to be no because both switches respond to the same IR command and there is no way to reprogramming one of them to another code.

Likewise, with two two-gang dimmers in one room the first gang of both would go on and off together by remote, and the second gang of both would go on and off together by remote.

I didn't realise this, I assumed given the price they would be programmable like the Varilights. I agree what a ridiculous limitation for such an expensive range! If I hadn't just read this thread I may have just gone and made a very expensive mistake!

I'm having nothing but frustration looking for IR controlled dimmers. The Varilights have the stupid one-button design, and now I find the Lutrons aren't programmable! Do the people who design these things not actually use them????

Oh yes I see. I understood the issue with 2 dual dimmers. But thought he was saying even with 1 dual you cannot do independently with a learning remote which he does not. He said you cannot retrain the lutron !

Sorry !

Yes, i nearly bought two two-gang dimmers but thought i would check. Apart from the design the varilights do the job and at a reasonable relative price. Only problem with varilights is the buzzing noise and the plastic fades after a few years.

i haven't been receiving emails to notify me when a new reply has been posted so i've missed these recent replies. before anybody asks i do have that option selected!
