CCTV via Homeplug?

Hi,

Posted a similar question on the ntworking forum, but this is probably a better one.....

I've got a few wireless CCTV cameras which I connect into a quad processor connected into a monitor. One of the wireless signals is poor quality because the line of sight includes the house walls!

I've just read about "homeplugs" and I wondered if I could use a pair to improve the picture quality. As I understand it the connection into the homeplug is a normal network type connection, but from what I've read they are supposed to be capable of being used with CCTV So my question is how do you connect from the camera to the homeplug, is there an adapter/connector required.

Someone suggested using an IP webcam but I don't think the camera quality on these would be as good as I require.

Any advice/links would be appreciated.

Re: CCTV via Homeplug?

Homeplug can only carry ethernet data so will only work if your camera is ethernet compatible. If you cameras and quad processor are analogue then they are completely incompatible with Homeplug. If you use a IP CCTV camera (quality can be as good as fully wired analogue cameras) then this could be used over Homeplug but as it would need to be viewed on a PC via a web browser or using the software supplied with the camera.

Re: CCTV via Homeplug?

Neil,

Thanks.

Looks like my only option is to find a cable route from the camera to the quad - its possible but a pain - and use cat5 cable with baluns
