Colour changing striplight/rope light

Hi

I have a room approx. 5.1m x 3.8m where i am creating a pelmet within the ceiling so i can house striplights or ropelights
i have had a look about but the strip lights all the way round seems a very costly way to acheive a colour changing decoration within this room

can anyone suggest somewhere to get good striplights or ropelights that i can colour change for this size of room that is not too expensive.

Re: Colour changing striplight/rope light

Are you putting in lighting controls?

If so then depending on the size of the pelmet a cost effective approach might be to use 3 x linear flourescent tubes with quality high frequency 1-10v dimmable ballasts and red, green & blue gels over the tubes. Gives a good light output and infinite color combinations by selectively dimming each channel. You could do something similar using 3 Duralite rope lights as well, these would only require 3 conventional dimmer channels to operate. Both will not give a true white output and the rope lighting would not be too bright but it could be worth experimenting with some small cut lengths before going the whole hog.
