for plasma rear lighting do the light strips need to go all the way round the back??

hi

got a couple of packs of dioder light strips from ikea for backlighting my new plasma.

how much of the rear rim needs to be covered to give the desired effect?? do they have to run woth no gaps or can they be spread out a little to reduce the outlay on the strips??

thanks for your time

Chuck

Re: for plasma rear lighting do the light strips need to go all the way round the bac

I have the apollo system (see the power buys section, very good by the way)

I have found it depends on positioning of the TV. I previously had it on a stand in a round bay window and had 2 long tubes down the sides and 1 long tube along the top (leaving gaps each side) the light was dispersed/spread and was fine. Now the TV is on the wall it doesn't have the distance for the light to disperse so I have found it now needs strips all the way round for the effect I want.

Re: for plasma rear lighting do the light strips need to go all the way round the bac

The TV's wall bracket adds about 4cm from the wall. The apollo kit is actually dimmable (and remote controlled, infinitely adjustable colours, 6 presets plus some fading/pulsing effects)

The effect isn't overpowering at all and can be turned down but it is bright enough to be usable on its own as dim room lighting. I'll try and take some pictures but its hard to actually convey the effect photographically.

Because the lights are tubes and mount on C shaped clips you can actually rotate the tubes in and out to vary the area of lighting. the further out they point from the edge of the TV the more the area lit. If you rotate them inwards you get a dimmer narrower lighting effect.

Right I'm off to get my Camera, back shortly
