I seem to have 2 Master telephone sockets in my lounge, one for BT and another for NTL/Virginmedia

I understand the patch panel aspect of a network, but was wondering what is the easiest way to tidy up the Master sockets and distribute them to the patch panels....I would like to have CAT5e / RJ45 connections in all rooms and patch to them accordingly

Is it as simple as removing the faceplate of the Master sockets and replacing with a RJ45 version, and chasing a route from the rear of the Master socket to the patch panel? do I need any particular type of Master socket?

I dont use the BT one at the moment, as I am on NTL/virgin, but would rather future proof the installation.

My internet is supplied via a seperate NTL socket, via cable

I would leave the master sockets as they are, but run a cat5e tail off the back of each of them to your patch panel.

For BT you just need the pair connected to pins 2 and 5 (should be blue in the data world), not sure about the NTL/V plate but should be the same.

Then at the patch panel end, if you need more than one point turn the cutter off you punch down tool and link across the up to four of the patch points, linking just the blue pair.

Then at the faceplate end, connect a PBX MAster Balun to convert the RJ45 socket back to a telephone connection for you phone.

Yep, looks like this, but make sure it is a master because then it will generate the ring for you.
