QED Systemline question

I can't find a section for multi-room audio systems on this forum, perhaps I haven't looked hard enough. If this is the wrong section could someone please tell me the correct section.

I have a query about a first generation QED Systemline system (red LED wall panels in each room). I haven't seen the customers system yet as they are some distance away. They want to use the spare input on the system for a DVD player but I am not sure the system will have IR codes for any DVD player. I think I'm right in saying this system cannot learn IR codes. I don't seem to be able to get technical help from QED or any dealer because I don't have accounts with them.

Can anyone please advise.

Thanks

John R

Re: QED Systemline question

i dont think the old systemline r/cs a learning types. They had a limited number of built-in ir codes for supported manufaturers only. went to a clients recently, and he had the IR window type single gang faceplate, so you can use the original remote methinks.

Re: QED Systemline question

Thanks very much for that.

I forgot to say that I believe the remotes are black and rectangular and not at all like the currect ones. I had thought that the handsets just produced bespoke QED IR codes and that the source equipment IR codes were in the processor. From what you say I realise that the source equipment IR codes are obviously in these handsets and whatever is picked up at the wall sensors ends up at the IR wands on the source equipment. If the customer doesn't want to move the original DVD remote from room to room I suppose I could use a low cost 'off the shelf' learning remote for each room and get it to store all the codes including the switching codes from the QED handsets.

Is there any way to get the wall panels to display the correct time and also show 'DVD' for the new DVD player? If so, how is this done? I also wonder if there are any downloadable set-up details anywhere on the net. I've had no luck so far.

Thanks again.

John R

Re: QED Systemline question

Setup is not downloadable, Armour HE have it well sewn up. Ifr they just want to connect a new source, one that is not supported, it won't help anyway. Choosing the DVD with care could be the way to go if it must all be cheap, get some cheap learning remotes, and buy a DVD off the list on the packet!
