Has anybody had any experience with X10 mark II. Is it any better?

Hi,

I have a lot of X10-2 modules from Kevin Lo.
And yes, they are quicker to respond and much more reliable than Marmitek's old products.
The light switches are a lot of stylish too.

I also have some of Kevin Lo's X10 mk2 modules, they are almost identical to the Domia modules on the simplyautomate site.

When the order from Kevin Lo arived in the UK I had to pay a £25.00 customs charge on around £100 worth of modules. So it may be easier to go with SimplyAutomate.

The only real difference is that they have a 'soft' on and off ie they dim to bright and they remember the last dim setting.

I mean, do they work any better, with my current X10s, you have to walk to the location to see if they actually came on, which somewhat defeats the purpose.

I have a mixture of X10 and X10 Mk2, the only time really when something doesn't happen is when the PC & harmony set a light scene and the CM12U disabled itself! I have had to reinstall Harmony and despite repeated requests for a new activation code none has been forthcoming. I had the Harmony MCE addon but by the time you went to the programm you were quicker getting up or reaching for the remote. I have 2 X10 Transievers around the house to widen the coverage area, on the whole I'm happy with it.

Well I'm not so happy with mine (all X10 Mk1), with IR343 and two transcievers, and basically I could never depend on it doing what its supposed to. Probably down to all the other crap, I have plugged in.
Am considering some zwaves, but will have to read up a bit, to see are they reliable.

I dont use a 343 - thats the keyfob isn't it? I use the HR10 RF Remote control and it works well. The batteries are due for a change and they have been in six months!

Sorry typo m8, meant ir543, and I also use the HR10 RF Remote control, which like you say works pretty good, better than the ir543 anyway. I am using mainly a Pronto 950 as my remote, like I said, if one can't be pretty certain that the command has been executed then the system falls on its face, and I'm never "pretty certain"

They also are quite a bit more reliable, and have filter built into each module.
All the plug-in modules have a local button to switch on/off.

Just got a couple of the X10-2 lamp modules today from letsautomate, Only bought them for the soft start function, very nice to not have all the lamps come on at full brightness, especilly after sitting in the dark watching a film for 2 hours. Quite like how you address them as well although will miss the rotarty wheels as it is handy when I forget what is what I have so many around the house now!

Had them not respond a few times tonight though while playing around, never had that with my older ones, also the dimming of them isn't as smooth as on the old ones, seems to drop down two distinct steps for each press of the dim button.

Can anyone confirm if the X10 mark2 can be controlled by a Harmony 525 ?
Id like one of the lamp control units.

The 525 remote can control an IR to X10 receiver I think its called the IR-7423? You will need to set a sequence in an activity ie house code then unit code and set the activity to leave the other devices alone.
