Hi,

Having had my missus car trashed last night by some 'tard in a blue merc that skidded on the ice outside our house and crashed into her car then drove off i am considering investing in some CCTV to go into the eves of the house to potentially monitor people coming up to the house..

Can anyone suggest any systems that i can use. Do not want anything expensive just something that can potentially "see" in the dark and is of good quality (enough to see car reg plates, peoples faces etc from the eves of a 1 storey house). The house is an old 1920's build.

I would be looking currently for a single camera, that either connects to a PC, or a network camera that has built in HTTP/SMTP to send images and videos..

Will need to be waterproof i guess!

If potentially it overlaps onto the road and monitors people entering the road (cul-de-sac) what are the legal issues? My understand is that i have to put up a sign that says CCTV monitoring is in progress, and supply a number to call for questions etc.

Take a look at Y3K, they have some good kit.

Basically, spend as much as you can on the camera and defo try to get PC/DVR recording sorted out. I always think whats the point of having a CCTV camera system if for the 10 minutes of the year that you actually need to see something the picture is crap and not detailed enough.

Take a look at simply automate website.You can call them for advicetoo.I have four of the little sony ccd cameras which cost me about £75 each and a four way switcher with a remote that scrolls through all cameras or can be set to sit on just one of them.Night vision really is very good too.

Geovision is a good PC based system and the panaconis IP camera come with their own recording software.

Not sure how 'good' they are at night though.
