Hi all,

Need to know if any of you have tried a varilight dimmer with the above 12V lights?. They have electronic transformers that do not say they are not dimmable but then again they don't say they are either!

The instructions that came with them say they are not but they may just be covering their backsides as normal dimmer switches will not work.

just for info....Yes they are!...although the xplode needs load applied (A couple of mains halogen lamps attached) or it flickers...oh but it is very noisy (Real bad buzzing) so it has gone back.

Be careful with electronic transformers that aren't dimmable. They might seem to dim OK, but you run the risk of them failing after a few months of use. No fireworks, they just stop working. Might be worth the risk, but that's up to you.

Another option, depending on the accessibility of the transformer, is to remove the existing transformer and replace with a suitably rated dimmable transformer - I did this with a LV rise & fall light bar over my Dining Room table where I replaced the non-dimmable transformer with a new Aurora dimmable model and it now dims perfectly.
