Simple CCTV requirements

Hi guys,
Im looking to buy two cameras that I want to mount at home that will allow me to monitor my (vacant) property during the day. I want to set one facing the driveway/garage (so I can see when anyone comes to the house) and one inside the house, or maybe on the back of the house.

I therefore need two cameras that are both wireless and waterproof. I dont want to spend a fortune, but need to be able to connect up and view the images from the web - whether that be a live stream or snapshots sent by FTP/email etc.

Can anyone recommend something suitable?

Thanks

Re: Simple CCTV requirements

any particular reason why you need wireless?

you will get a much better and cheaper selection if you go wired

Re: Simple CCTV requirements

I could go wired i guess, I was thinking wireless purely because it would save me running an ethernet cable outside to the garage. That said, i guess i could use one of the homeplug ethernet adapters to run the signal through if there's already electricity going to the garage couldn't i?

In that case then, i'd just need a good outdoor IP CCTV camera that I can monitor from the web.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Simple CCTV requirements

Thanks for all the info. I have a media center PC running 24/7 - is there any OSS that I could use to handle the uploading of images etc to save a few pennies?

Can you use the homeplug adapters with wired cameras? Would save the added expense of wireless and also greater reliability.

Re: Simple CCTV requirements

yes you could use homeplug but unless you've got a couple lying around thats gonna cost you another £85 or so (if i remember the prices correctly).

depends what premium the wireless is.

Personally i'd go wired over homeplug any day, far more reliable than wireless.

Unfortunately outdoor ip cameras are still a bit expensive, another option is to buy a camera enclosure and put a normal ip camera inside that?!

Re: Simple CCTV requirements

If your running a server, put a Geovision card in your pc.

You can buy one second hand ,then you can use any camera.

Viewing over the web is a breeze and will give you recording playback etc also.
