urgent advice needed re lights in pelmet

Hi guys, i'm building a pelmet for my screen and intend to put a couple of lights in which will shine down on my lovely MA speakers. Looking at fairly bright'ish decent mood lights. Not looking at dimmer lighting since i'm looking to control via a remote controlled socket on plug.

could someone advise whether i can use 2 GU10's attached via 75mm cable directly to 2 a plug socket? The pelmet is made of battens and mdf (12mm). I'm aware that there should be a distance between the batten and light since they do heat up. could any1 tell me whether this is viable? Or should i look at LED lights.. trouble is that once screwed in i'll struggle to open the pelmet if the transformer goes...

PLease advise my friends..

You could use low energy GU 10s then no heat problem.
Expensive but they last forever.

May not be available in a DIY store I get them from my wholesaler.

Make sure only 3 amp fuse in plug supplying them (or whatever light ou use)

Also I assume you mean .75mm cable 75mm would be big enough to feed the whole street.

Re: urgent advice needed re lights in pelmet

Jagdeepp, I would go with the LEDs, they last forever, give of no heat and you can position the transformer in a location that is easy to access. I have used them in my pelmet and my DVD cabinets and they work really well.

Re: urgent advice needed re lights in pelmet

You've convinced me! I've bought some led lights from Maplin.. 20 quid each!!! expensive or what! However, i've noticed that i cant recess them from my ceiling since theirs nothing there to latch it onto the pelmet!? any ideas? looking to get them from elsewhere since i feel i've paid to much for them. I'm after 2 led lights with fairly bright output.
